Nine Ways to Find More Peace

Peace for everyone will be a bit different, but ideally it will be a place of comfort and relative quiet.

Finding time for ourselves is the most important first step to finding peace.

As women we often feel overwhelmed with all that we have to do. We feel we have no time for ourselves, but to be our best selves we need to find time for ourselves. To be able to continue to be there for others we need to find time to look after ourselves.

Below are 9 ways to bring more peace to your life.

1. Set boundaries for yourself.

Choose when it is a good time for you. You do not have to say yes to everything, if you struggle to say no. Start with “give me a day to think how I can fit this into my schedule” and then tell them a time that works for you.

2. Try to relax.

I know, this is much easier said than done. But, anytime you are feeling a bit anxious take some deep breaths. Slow deep breaths in and slow exhales out. This helps slow the heartbeat and lower blood pressure, and it can be done anywhere.

3. Spend less time on social media.

Believe it or not social media can be a stressor. Comparing yourself to others or seeing the troll comments. Find something you enjoy doing, reading, painting, doing a puzzle, going for a walk, whatever gives you a bit of a break with out causing you more anxiety.

4. Declutter.

I know all the minimalists are telling you to get rid of everything, and if you want to do that you can. But, you can start with one small area. Maybe it’s the place you like to sit, your car, your computer desktop. Clearing the clutter physically actually helps to clear the clutter mentally.

5. Let things go.

Again, a hard one to do sometimes, but one that will change your life. You can’t change people, you can only change yourself. You don’t need to get involved in every battle. You don’t need to worry about what other people think of you. Just spend time on the things you can change in yourself.

6. Disconnect when it is not time to work.

Remove all the work notifications from your personal devices. Don’t worry about things you can’t do anything about until the next work day. Leave work at work.

7. One thing at a time.

Multi tasking does not help us do more. In fact it has been proven that when we try to multitask that we perform all tasks at a lower level, often making more mistakes. We often have to end up doing things again or fixing errors which causes more stress. Do one thing at a time.

8. Don’t listen to or engage in gossip.

Only say things about people that you would say to them. It can be overwhelming to try and keep all the stories straight. Plus, negativity is not good for you.

9. Meditate.

Meditation is  a wonderful way to find a few moments of peace each day. I have a morning meditation and journaling class, Morning Calm,  (add link) which we would love to have you join. Find a few moments and sit in silence or listen to a guided meditation.

Whatever you do to find peace for yourself, make it a priority. Don’t burn yourself out running in circles. Look after yourself.

This week's exercise.

Finding Peace

Supplies;

  • Included meditation
  • Paper
  • Paint, Crayons, Markers, Pencil Crayons, anything that makes marks.

Listen to this breathing meditation above

Choose peaceful colors and color the whole page in peaceful colors. It doesn’t need to be pictures of symbols, just cover the paper in color.

We aren’t looking for a finished project.

Once the paper is covered in color.

Write on  the back of your paper what peace is to you.

  • What is peace?
  • How does it make you feel?
  • Why do you need it?
  • When can you make time for it?
  • Where can you make space for your peace?

Turn back to the front of the page and write one affirmation for yourself about peace.

Eg: I am full of peace, I feel peaceful, I bring peace into my life.

The use of color and journaling are great ways to let go and explore thoughts and feelings.

Thursday we will release the video for this week's exercise. Subscribe to the Creative U YouTube channel so you don’t miss it.

Have an Amazingly Creative Day,
